The Landlord

The semester and year has been flying by. Where do I begin on what is going on in my life?

I executive produced a short film that is being entered in film festivals for the summer, named "the landlord." It is a film noir and you can get more information on it here.

I have been working hard on motion graphics titles for my professor, Brian Fuller, for his upcoming documentaries.

Speaking of motion graphics, I worked with some great guys to create promos for the Festival of Faith and Music at Calvin College this April, they can be seen here. They consisted of putting text in an environment (city) to promote the artists and speakers attending the festival.

Compass Film Academy has been doing a lot of student films and such this time of the year and I have had the privilege to work on two of them, as 2nd AC and Boom Op.

Look for lots of upcoming videos.

Winner!

Every year Calvin College offers a 25 hour film festival. Each year I put together the same team of people, we usually do very well, 2nd and 4th places in Calvin's and Top Ten for Compass Film Academy's.

This year we were very excited and got our usual team together, we worked our tails off, having two camera crews and working on post-production on four separate machines at MBCM. We were very happy with our entry and sure enough we won!

The film follows:

Director of Photography

This semester I am taking CAS 351, Advanced Media Production. For this class we are making a short film, temporarily titled "Doug," a story touching on the facts of job loss in our current market and state.

We had to apply for the positions we wanted on the crew, from Producer to Electrician. Since I have some experience at Director of Photography I thought it would be good to give it a shot. After applying we waited a week and our professor announced positions, I was to be the DP!

I will be using the JVC 200u with a Cinevate Brevis 35mm lens adapter. I am very excited and I will post some test footage of it up asap.

Photomotion/stopmotion

Lately I have decided to forego making videos with my crappy camera to make photomotion videos using my much nicer digital still camera. Now I can get HD quality videos, which is nicer in a certain sense, but it is jumpy do to the nature of photomotion.

Along the same lines as HD video, I have been helping Jake Bosmeijer set up Calvin's new HD studio cameras this week, running cables to the switcher and figuring out how to get the new equipment to do all of the same things as the old gear.

A new video should be up soon, I am currently having codec issues...
